Yeah Burger

With only a few weeks left in the semester, I am really starting to appreciate the restaurants that Atlanta has, but Chicago doesn’t.  One of these is Yeah Burger.  We don’t have it back home, so I just assumed it was another imitation of 5 Guys.  A few weeks ago, a lot of my friends wanted to go for dinner, so I decided to go along and give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had an extensive menu with lots of different options, many of which are relatively healthy.  The atmosphere is great too; it’s very comfortable and well kept up, not your typical burger joint.  I liked it so much that I went back again last week.  Both times I went to the Virginia Highlands location.

They have all sorts of burgers, not just your usual beef.  You can get bison, turkey, or veggie burgers, and they also have chicken sandwiches.  There are so many sauces to choose from.  They also have hot dogs, salads, desserts, and some really great sides.  The first time I went, I decided to try a classic beef cheeseburger with their signature “Yeah sauce”.  The burger was a good portion, and it was moist but not greasy.  I could really taste the beef, unlike burgers you might get at a Burger King or Wendy’s.

I also ordered a side of sweet-potato fries during my first trip there.  I love sweet potatoes, so whenever I see sweet potato fries at a restaurant—which is rare—I have to try them.  They are salty but also a little bit sweet, and they go well with all of the sauces I’ve tried at Yeah Burger.  Sweet potatoes also have many health benefits, so these are a little easier to justify than basic French fries.

I am a big carnivore, so I usually stay away from veggie burgers, but I am Catholic, and my second trip was on a Friday during Lent, so I tried the veggie burger.  I wasn’t really sure what to expect.  The veggie burgers I’d had in the past had all been kind of gross and very thin, not so filling.  Yeah Burger’s was actually really good.  Again, I tried it with the Yeah sauce.  It was big, and very thick and filling.  It didn’t taste like something out of a vegetable garden; I’m not really sure how to describe the flavor, but I would probably get it again if I wasn’t in the mood for beef or chicken.

Of course I got another side of sweet potato fries, but I also tried some of my friend’s fried pickles.  Fried pickles really don’t sound all that good to me, I would never have ordered them off the menu, but it couldn’t hurt to try them.  They were actually really good.  Its amazing that I assumed Yeah Burger was just a typical burger joint, but by my second trip I was enjoying things that I never would have ordered before.

  1. Michael: fried pickles, sweet potato fries, and burgers...overall a delicious blog post. You have done a great job with your blog this semester, and I am glad that you have gotten to appreciate some of what Atlanta has to offer. By the way, your presentation was stellar! You are an excellent speaker, and it made me wish you had participated more in class discussions. I'm glad we finally got to hear it at some length on Friday. Good work!
